Thought 129

“Come, follow me!” (Mt 4:19) The call of Christ always imposes to leave everything; he requires an exclusive choice for Jesus.

This commitment sometimes takes on a disconcerting form. To a man who begged to follow him, Jesus answered: “Go home.” (Mc 5:19) It seems that this separation was also imposed on the Virgin Mary (cf. Mt 12:47). How strange that the yearning of his company is repressed by the Lord Himself. But there is also another singular vocation: that of Saint Joseph. Jesus, as a matter of fact, did not want to leave home while Joseph still lived there.

Saint Joseph, guardian of the mystery of family intimacy, teaches us to welcome in our homes the peace and charity that make Jesus our proximate.
