There are no shortages of images representing Jesus near the paternal workshop. The inquiring eyes of the child observing Joseph’s every gesture, the love of fine work and the devotion to the construction of the Kingdom. St. Joseph did not only transmit to his son the art of carpentry but above all the dispositions of the heart by which « the Lord your God will bless every work of your hands. » (Dt 14:29)
Thus Jesus, a carpenter and a carpenter’s son, reveals his identity by portraying himself as a shepherd, a winegrower, a doctor, a sower and compares his disciple’s apostolate to the work of harvesters and fishermen.
St. Joseph, make me an artisan of the Kingdom!
