Thought 119

The Ascension is of great mystery which is easily considered as a rise, a bodily ascension. But Saint Paul tells us that our life is « hidden with Christ in God. » (Col 3:3) We must understand that Christ fulfills his promise to make us one with him (cf. Jn 17:21) and to unite us altogether with God (cf. Jn 17:23). It thus seems that his physical ascension is also his spiritual descent. Jesus rises so that man may reach its depth. Our assumption of God’s nature unveils itself in us and God within our midst.

Is this not what Jesus said when he placed a little child in the household among the embarrassed disciples (cf. Mk 9:36)? Is this not what the Risen Lord revealed when he appeared among frightened apostles (cf. Jn 20:19)? “Why are you standing there looking at the sky?” (Ac 1:11) He is between Mary and Joseph, alongside with them.
