« But Mary kept all these events, and pondered them in her heart. » (Lk 2:19)
Mary doesn’t keep these events as schoolchildren remember their poem: she keeps guard, she protects a treasure.
Buried in the Mother’s silence, the Word of God, whole and alive, vibrates with his mysteries. The heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary is the essence of all religious life, it is the Church’s secret garden in which take place all encounters with Jesus risen from the dead.
Joseph, for his part, looks after Mary and her heart: the silence and the secret. From that moment on, all concecrated life blossoms under Saint Joseph’s guard. He is the enclosure of both the Church’s secret garden and of the Monastery.
